What does a project cost?
A fixed price, quoted up front, never an open meter. After a short scoping call I put the price and timeline in writing before anyone commits, so the paperwork is never a surprise. The number scales with scope: a marketing site and a full application aren't the same order. The house rules lay out how it's set.
How long does a build take?
A marketing site runs a few weeks; a full custom application runs a few months. After the scoping call you get an honest range in writing up front, not a fast number I have to walk back later.
What do you build with?
Mostly TypeScript on Next.js and React, with Postgres for data and AWS for hosting, the same stack behind my own product, Afterword. I lean on tools that are boring in the best way: well-supported, easy to hand off, and still here in five years. If you already have a stack, I'll work in it.
Will you work on software someone else built?
Yes, it's a good share of the work. I start with a short review of what's there and tell you plainly whether it's worth repairing or replacing, before you spend anything on either. No band-aids on something that should be rebuilt, and no rewrite you don't actually need.
Can you work with my in-house team?
Yes. I can lead a build on my own or plug into an existing team, reviewing code, filling a gap, or pairing with your developers. Small shop means you work directly with the person writing the code either way, never a junior you're handed off to.
What happens after launch?
Defects are covered during the warranty window named in your statement of work. After that, bring me back for changes as they come up, or set up a monthly retainer if you'd rather have standing time on the calendar. Either way, the code is yours.
Do you sign NDAs?
Happily, on request, before we get into specifics. Confidentiality is also built into the master agreement, so it's covered whether or not we sign a separate NDA. Your idea stays your idea.
Do you work with Kansas City businesses?
Yes, I'm based in Kansas City and glad to meet in person over coffee or a beer. Most of the work happens remotely, though, so being local isn't a requirement on your end. I work with clients wherever they are.
